Being a leader in promoting green transformation among Chinese cities, Shanghai, to date, has more than 1.41 million new energy vehicles in operation across the city, and has built nearly 840,000 units of charging piles, and the East China cosmopolis looks to further accelerate its transformation into green and low carbon development, according to official sources.
"The green and low carbon energy transformation also includes the installation of 3.48 million kilowatts of photovoltaic capacity and 1.07 million kilowatts of wind power capacity, a total of 400 million square meters of green buildings, as well as 14 million square meters of building spaces boasting ultra-low energy consumption," said Chen Guozhong, deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Development and Reform Commission during an event to celebrate the second National Ecology Day on Thursday in Shanghai.
According to Chen, taking a lead among Chinese cities to introduce and implement a regulation on promoting green transformation development, green and low-carbon development has penetrated into sectors including energy, industries, life and consumption.
A total of 20 programs were named as the city's first batch of pilot trials in Shanghai's pursuit of carbon neutrality on Thursday.
"Recognizing the necessity and urgency of sustainable development, a series of recycle solutions were developed and trialed in our express delivery package services," said Yu Zhengxin, a project manager of intra-city business in Shanghai with China Post.
According to Yu, the up to 60,000 person trips have trialed their solutions, which made couriers with special delivery requirements to be transported safer, greener and more convenient.
"The more than 3,800 intelligent recycling machines available across Shanghai can collect 470 tons on daily basis, and serving up to 1.57 million users to date," said He Jiachen, vice-president of AHS (Aihuishou) Recycle.
Shanghai-based urban green industry chain service provider AHS Recycle has created a closed loop recycling chain including collecting, transportation, sorting in accordance with Chinese people's garbage classification and disposal habits, said He.
"SF Express launched the express delivery sector's first full-process closed-loop recycling project for plastic packaging waste in Shanghai, by working with companies along the industry chain, the service eyes to minimize the impact of express waste on the environment," said Tian Bowen, a project manager of SF Express in Shanghai.
According to Tian, the company is committed to raising its carbon efficiency by 55 percent by 2030 from that of 2021, and lowering 70 percent carbon footprint for each parcel against that of 2021.
To further accelerate the city's green and low carbon transformation, an action plan is being researched and formulated, aiming to deploy 15 major green and low carbon application scenarios falling into seven categories, said Chen.
