On Tuesday morning, a shipment of electronic equipment goods manufactured on the Chinese mainland and distributed for transport in Zhuhai, Guangdong province, was officially declared at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Customs using the pre-declaration mode.

Half an hour after the goods arrived at the port, bridge customs officers completed their inspection. Subsequently, they were transported through the bridge to Hong Kong International Airport and then air-shipped to countries such as Singapore and the United Arab Emirates.

The bridge has become an important foreign trade channel connecting the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to the global market, as the value of goods imported and exported through the Zhuhai checkpoint port on the bridge increased significantly over the past few years, according to the local customs.

Between the bridge's opening in October 2018 and July 2024, 902.19 billion yuan ($127.2 billion) worth of goods were transported through the Zhuhai port, according to statistics from Gongbei Customs in Zhuhai.

The bridge customs has implemented customs clearance measures to increase transportation efficiency, such as immediate reporting and reviewing and rapid inspection and release.

The bridge has evolved into a rapid channel for high-tech goods, fresh products for Hong Kong and Macao and cross-border e-commerce parcels. It has also become a comprehensive logistics hub that drives the rapid integration and development of logistics, capital and information flow between the mainland and the two special administrative regions, the customs said.

The destinations for the import and export of goods through the bridge's ports cover 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions across the Chinese mainland.
