Beijing called on Washington to maintain consistency with policies and make concerted efforts with China to cope with global challenges, as Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with United States Senior Advisor to the President for International Climate Policy John Podesta in Beijing on Friday.

Recognizing that addressing climate change is crucial for the future of humanity and the fate of the planet, Wang emphasized China's commitment to pursuing a path of green, low-carbon, and sustainable development. He also stressed China's active engagement in international cooperation on climate change issues.

Dialogue and cooperation on climate change are not only integral to China-US relations but also crucial measures for implementing the consensus reached between the two heads of state at a summit in San Francisco, Wang said.

Teams on climate change on both sides have been in close communication since the beginning of this year, yielding a series of practical results, he said.

Wang expressed hope that the US will keep its policy stable, genuinely respect China's legitimate concerns and avoid protectionism and pan-securitization to work together with China to jointly tackle global challenges.

Podesta said the US is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with China, and engage in constructive cooperation on the climate issues.

He said cooperation on climate change is a key component of US-China relations, concerning global multilateral cooperation.

He expressed the belief that collaborative efforts between the US and China will not only benefit the two peoples but also bring more benefit to the world.
