Modern art goes from digits to digital
It is an era in which artists on longer rely solely on their hands to create.
Some have integrated the use of mechanical instruments and digital technology into their work. Others have dropped manual work altogether, and partner only with robots and digital technology.
Semi-Manual Era, an ongoing exhibition at the Gravity Art Museum, addresses the phenomenon of artists experimenting with new methods and ways of thinking to change the presentation of their work, and to expand the range of the language of art.
The exhibition, which runs until Sept 22, engages visitors with discussions of the changes to painting wrought by modern technology in a variety of ways.
It shows the effort of artists to "invite" technology into their painterly process, which has generated new forms of painting in a digital context. Meanwhile, it also displays the creations of these who maintain their attachment to manual work.
