PARIS -- A fire broke out in the 13th arrondissement of Paris on Tuesday afternoon, leaving two people injured, according to local media reports.

The blaze started around 5 pm local time (1500 GMT) on a rooftop under renovation, as reported by the French news channel BFMTV.

Two gas bottles exploded as a result of the fire, further intensifying the situation. Fortunately, workers on site and nearby residents were evacuated promptly before the explosions occurred.

Emergency services quickly responded to the scene, with firefighters battling the flames. A firefighter and a worker were injured during the response, though no further details about their condition have been provided at this time.

As a precaution, an elementary school located nearby was also evacuated, according to Jerome Coumet, the mayor of Paris's 13th arrondissement, who spoke to BFMTV. The fire was brought under control around 7 pm local time (1700 GMT), Coumet confirmed.

The police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
