Investigation of suspicious death of Changsha woman ongoing

The 58-year-old woman who has been murdered in Changsha, Hunan province on Saturday has no prior connection with the two suspects, who also died, according to local police.

The victim is surnamed Liu and lives in Changsha, while the two suspects, both surnamed Jiang and in their 30s are from Pingjiang county, Hunan, the police said.

One of the suspects, was the legal representative and shareholder of a company in Pingjiang. He did furniture business in other provinces from 2019 to 2022 and went to Macao many times, and had gambling debts of more than 12 million yuan ($1.7 million), it said.

The two suspects went to the residential community Liu lived in the afternoon of Wednesday and left there early on Thursday. They returned to the building Liu lived at 6:49 am and 7:07 am on Thursday and waited for Liu to leave her home, before they took out knives to kidnap her.

Surveillance cameras show that Liu and one of the Jiangs fell off the balcony of the 13th floor on 9:12 am. There were signs of fighting at the balcony.

The other Jiang tried to climb down to the balcony of 12th floor using the curtains but fell off at 9:17 am.

Police found two backpacks at the staircase left by the two men, containing a rope, duct tape and gloves.

The case is under investigation, the police said.
