As the year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, China on Thursday expressed its willingness to strengthen ties with Brazil, enhance high-level exchanges, deepen practical cooperation in all fields and elevate strategic cooperation to jointly build a community of shared future.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the remarks when meeting a high-level delegation led by Rui Costa, chief of staff of the Presidency of Brazil, in Beijing.

China attaches great importance to its relationship with Brazil and is confident in Brazil’s development prospects, Wang said.

China and Brazil are respectively the two largest developing countries in the eastern and western hemispheres, with a total population and economic aggregate accounting for over one-fifth of the world, according to Wang.

The all-round strategic cooperation between the two countries under new circumstances serves the long-term and fundamental interests of the two peoples, he said, adding that it also sets an example of unity and cooperation among countries in the Global South, contributing significantly to the progress of humanity.

Costa expressed high appreciation for China’s development achievements and contributions to global economic growth.

Brazil is willing to promote more tangible results in various fields such as economy and trade, finance and infrastructure, and propel the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries to a new level, he added.

Both sides also exchanged in-depth views on improving global governance, agreeing to uphold the common interests of developing countries and safeguard international fairness and justice.
