Visitor arrivals in Macao up 30.1% for first nine months of 2024

MACAO -- The visitor arrivals in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) increased by 30.1 percent year-on-year to 25,920,914 in the first nine months of 2024, the SAR's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) said on Wednesday.
The figure suggested an 85.8-percent recovery of the same period in 2019. The DSEC also noticed that the number of same-day visitors (13,834,674) and overnight visitors (12,086,240) grew by 42.8 percent and 18.1 percent year-on-year, respectively.
Regarding the source of visitors, those from the Chinese mainland increased by 36.3 percent year-on-year to 18,217,413, and visitors from cities in the Greater Bay Area (8,796,640) went up by 35.5 percent.
Meanwhile, visitors from Hong Kong (5,402,071) and Taiwan (623,880) rose by 0.8 percent and 81.9 percent year-on-year, respectively.
According to the DSEC, international visitors soared by 95.1 percent year-on-year to 1,677,550 in the first three quarters, back to 70.7 percent of the level in the same period of 2019.
