Marking the 75th anniversary of the People's Republic of China, the 7th "Bauhinia Cup" knowledge competition for Hong Kong's primary and secondary school students concluded on Saturday.
This year's event saw an astonishing turnout of about 50,000 participating students from 400 schools across the region, according to the organizers, Bauhinia Culture Holdings Limited.
Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu congratulated the winners through a video message, stressing the significance of historical knowledge.
"History is a mirror that reflects the past and illuminates the path ahead," he said, encouraging students to delve into China's history to foster a sense of national identity and responsibility.
The competition, he noted, was more about instilling values than just winning, aiming to equip students to contribute significantly to Hong Kong and its future.
The final contest of five teams competing in each category in the morning and the award ceremony in the afternoon were both held at the Hong Kong Baptist University-Affiliated School Wong Kam Fai Secondary and Primary School, in New Territories of Hong Kong SAR.
At the event, Xu Zhengzhong, chairman of Bauhinia Culture Holdings Ltd, encouraged students to understand more of the motherland and contribute more in the future.
