Corruption fugitive surrenders, repatriated to China

Xu Haipeng, a suspect in a corruption investigation, has surrendered abroad and been repatriated to China, central anti-corruption authorities said on Thursday.

Xu, 34, formerly served as general manager of the legal compliance department at Jiangxi Province Financing Guarantee Group Co. He is suspected of bribery and money laundering. Xu fled the country in August, prompting investigations by disciplinary and public security authorities in Pingxiang, Jiangxi. Swift international cooperation led to Xu's voluntary surrender overseas, authorities said.

The case is part of the "Sky Net" campaign, launched in 2015 by the Fugitive Repatriation and Asset Recovery Office of the Central Anti-Corruption Coordination Group, targeting corruption fugitives.

A spokesperson for the office said efforts would continue to improve mechanisms for apprehending fugitives, preventing escapes, and recovering illicit assets, while seeking to strengthen international cooperation to discourage safe havens for those facing corruption charges.
