With the increasing number of Chinese businesses rushing to adopt new equipment to further reduce carbon emission and boost productivity, Swiss technology company ABB Ltd will focus on developing more customized solutions for local clients, with plans to extend these effective innovations to other parts of the world, according to its senior executives.

Speaking at their booth during the seventh China International Import Expo in Shanghai last week, Joachim Braun, president of ABB process industries, said process industries serve sectors such as steel and non-ferrous metals, mining, pulp and paper, and cement, all of which hold a significant global share in China. Among these, the steel industry ranks first, with China accounting for over 50 percent of global steel production.

"Therefore, if you are active in this sector, the Chinese market naturally plays a crucial role. We believe that the outlook for the Chinese market will be very positive over the next three years," said Braun.

He said while it might not directly translate to an increase in capacity, as many industries already have sufficient capacity; rather, it is more about enhancing potential and producing higher-quality products. It also supports decarbonization efforts within these industries.

In addition to large-scale production on a global scale, quality upgrades and decarbonization will become key drivers for further development, making us quite optimistic about future demands, Braun added.

As a seven-time participant at the CIIE, ABB brought more than 60 innovative products and solutions in the fields of smart energy, smart manufacturing and smart city to the expo.

"Like the smart manufacturing solutions we are showcasing this time, these solutions utilize the latest technologies, such as big data analytics, artificial intelligence and cloud computing," said Jiang Haibo, head of ABB process industries China.

"Our understanding is that there are many diverse demands from customers in the market, and digitalization and intelligence must bring real benefits," said Jiang. "Only when these solutions deliver tangible and significant benefits will customers truly embrace them."
