Shanghai University has taken a significant step toward promoting interdisciplinary studies and knowledge exchange on urban regeneration by signing a cooperation agreement with UN-Habitat. The university made the announcement on its WeChat account on Nov 12, following the agreement signed between Liu Changsheng, president of Shanghai University, and Raf Tuts, director of the Global Solutions Division of UN-Habitat, at the 12th session of the World Urban Forum in Cairo, Egypt.
The delegation from Shanghai University, led by President Liu, was invited to the forum by Anaclaudia Rossbach, executive director of UN-Habitat. The agreement outlines a commitment to strengthen the strategic partnership between the university and UN-Habitat through various initiatives, including the launch of the quarterly journal Urban Regeneration and hosting the First Session of Global Urban Regeneration Best Practices.
During a side event held by Shanghai University on Nov 5, Liu emphasized the university's dedication to shaping a better urban future.
"Named after Shanghai, our university is forging ahead with its mission to promote urban regeneration in the new era," Liu said, highlighting the university's commitment to fostering collaboration in closely related fields and establishing an integrated innovation platform for urban regeneration and sustainable development.
"The university will expand its in-depth cooperation with UN-Habitat, government authorities, and leading companies in urban construction and governance, striving to cultivate talents with interdisciplinary skills and explore new pathways for urban regeneration amidst new circumstances and challenges," Liu added.
Aligned with the forum's theme, "It all starts at home: Local actions for sustainable cities and communities," Shanghai University also held an exhibition at the Egypt International Exhibition Center to showcase Shanghai's practices towards a sustainable urban future, in collaboration with the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.
