Prosecutors from Beijing's Dongcheng district have focused more on handling cases involving juveniles since the beginning of this year, making every effort to provide minors with stronger legal protection in a timely manner.

Data released by the Dongcheng District People's Procuratorate on Thursday showed that it dealt with 59 cases related to juveniles from February to the end of October, with psychological assistance and legal consultancy service given to every minor victim in every case to minimize the damage to them.

While strengthening the fight against people who harmed children's legitimate rights and interests, especially those who sexually assaulted minors, the procuratorate have also taken measures to prevent juvenile crimes, such as providing them with law education and rehabilitation based on how serious their offenses were, said Feng Ying, deputy chief-procurator of the procuratorate.

She revealed that a total of 22 pieces of procuratorial suggestions were sent to government departments and social organizations engaged in the field of child care during the period, facilitating them to improving the quality of their services for juveniles.

In addition, the district's prosecutors have attached importance to tackling cases involving women, the elderly and people with disabilities, so that the legitimate rights and interests of the special population could be strongly guaranteed, she said.

She noted that efficiently solving such cases is aiming at safeguarding people's livelihood and the Dongcheng procuratorate has also increased the handling of disputes in areas of finance, environment, personal information, social insurance and food safety while protecting these special groups of people.

"For example, we've solved 244 financial cases and recovered losses of more than 27 million yuan ($3.7 million) for victims as of October, trying the best to protect the people's property rights and preventing financial risks in major industries," she said.

Moreover, the district's prosecutors have also played their supervision role by providing procuratorial suggestions and initiating public interest litigation against poorly performing government departments or enterprises in environmental protection, she added.

She said that the prosecutors will continue the effort to ensure people's livelihood, with wider technological application in case handling and stronger law education for the public.
