Over the past four decades, the relationship between the United Arab Emirates and China has laid a solid foundation for the two countries to become global partners and steadily march on the historic path toward a more prosperous future, said a senior UAE diplomat on Thursday in Beijing.

Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi, the UAE's ambassador to China, made the remarks at the UAE-China Friendship Festival, an event of festivities commemorating the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

"We are committed to further strengthening political mutual trust, deepening cultural, commercial and educational ties, and opening up new prospects for cooperation, so as to meet the expectations of the peoples of both countries," he said. "Our commitment to this partnership stems from our belief that unity makes us stronger and cooperation is the key to achieving progress, affluence and prosperity".

The UAE has emerged as China's largest trading partner in the Arab region. Last year, the volume of bilateral trade nearly reached $94.98 billion, and from January to August this year, the volume reached $66.33 billion, according to China's Foreign Ministry.

"From the booming economic partnerships to scientific and technological cooperation; from the cultural and artistic exchanges that enhance mutual understanding to the people-to-people relations that embody the stories of friendship and cooperation between the two peoples. The UAE and China share a grand vision for a beautiful future, which is manifested in innovation, sustainable development and common prosperity."

The four-day festival concludes with Emirati folklore performances, a traditional market to show Emirati food, handicraft and an exhibition of works of young artists from both China and UAE.

The event will conclude on Sunday. Since July, similar celebrations have been held this year in several Chinese cities.
