Tencent founder backs AI professorship at Singapore university

In response to the crucial role of artificial intelligence in transforming the future of education, the Shenzhen-based charity organization, Chen Yidan Foundation, announced a collaboration with Nanyang Technological University in Singapore to establish a professorship specializing in AI on Tuesday.

The foundation, established by Chen Yidan, a core founder of the internet giant Tencent, pledged to donate 6 million Singapore dollars ($4.47 million) to establish the professorship, with the aim of expanding AI academic courses, supporting related programs, and enhancing international cooperation.

The program is expected to boost research and the application of AI in education and enhance cooperation within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Ho Teck Hua, the president of NTU, stated that the university believes the donation will help attract top talent to spearhead groundbreaking research and educational models in the rapidly evolving field of AI.

Chen said that they believe AI will play a transformative role in shaping the future of learning and expressed hopes that the partnership will lead to breakthroughs and foster international cooperation and exchange, particularly in education research and practice for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
