A senior executive of an Indonesia-based Chinese enterprise has stressed that by viewing that education is the key to cultivating future talent, the local Chinese enterprises will continue to fulfill their corporate social responsibilities in helping outstanding students, so as to better showcase the image of Chinese enterprises in Indonesia.

Speaking at an event awarding 24 university students on Dec 9, Liu Jinshan, chairman of the board of Indonesia Guang Ching Nickel and Stainless Steel Industry, noted that they will continue to provide a broad learning platform for outstanding students, and help them give full play to their potential and create greater value for society.

The 24 winners from Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Yogyakarta, were awarded scholarships by Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP), with Liu attending the ceremony as the representative of the donor of the IMIP Sustainable Development Foundation, or Yayasan IMIP PEDULI (YIP).

It has been learned that besides UGM, 20 other universities in Indonesia have also received support from this project, including Gadjah Mada University, Bandung Institute of Technology, Hasanuddin University, State University of Makassar and Tadulako University.

The awarding of the scholarship has highlighted the firm commitment of Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park to ESG (environmental, social, governance).

Currently, ESG has become the consensus and actions of Chinese enterprises overseas, and the implementation of the scholarship project will lay a solid talent foundation for the long-term development of Indonesia's nickel industry, said Achmanto Mendatu, head of human resources at IMIP.

Mendatu noted in his speech at the awarding ceremony that the scholarship project is responding to the Indonesian government's long-term vision to embrace the "2045 Golden Vision of Indonesia," which aims to achieve prosperity and strength in the country by its centenary.

IMIP, as an important base for Indonesia's nickel smelting industry, has always been committed to promoting the development of local professionals, he said, adding that one of the challenges currently facing Indonesia's downstream industry is the urgent need for technical specialists.

Through the scholarship project, IMIP hopes to encourage more young students to devote themselves to the development of the country's downstream industries, he said.

Arie Sujit, vice-chancellor of UGM, expressed his sincere gratitude for IMIP's support and emphasized that this collaboration not only provides valuable learning and practical opportunities for students, but also demonstrates the shared vision of UGM and IMIP in knowledge development and talent cultivation.

He added: "Through in-depth collaborations with industry, the university is able to provide students with more options and opportunities, allowing them to play an important role in promoting the country's development."
