China records 1.8 million inbound, outbound trips on New Year's Day

Border inspection authorities across China saw 1.8 million inbound and outbound trips on Wednesday, the New Year's Day holiday, the National Immigration Administration said on Thursday.

It marked a 13.7 percent year-on-year increase, the NIA said in a statement.

Of these trips, 869,000 were made by residents on the Chinese mainland, which was a 11.1 percent year-on-year increase. As many as 749,000 were made by residents of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, a 12.8 percent year-on-year increase.

About 185,000 were made by foreign citizens, a 33.6 percent year-on-year increase, the data showed.

Border inspection agencies also checked 67,000 vehicles, including ships, trains and automobiles on the day, representing a year-on-year increase of 14.7 percent, it said.
