The harvest season for Ganlu black carp in Ehu town, Wuxi, Jiangsu province, kicked off on Dec 31, marking the reopening of the Wuxi Modern Fishery Culture Industrial Park.

The fish is called Ganlu black carp, which literally means "sweet dew black carp" in Chinese. People living in Wuxi and neighboring areas have the tradition of purchasing the fish for Spring Festival in China.

The history of local fishermen farming the fish can be traced back to 1924. They are usually farmed in clean ponds and fed with snails and clams.

Adorned with auspicious characters, the first Ganlu black carp weighs 16 kilograms and measures 108 centimeters in length.

The farming area of Ganlu black carp within the Wuxi Modern Fishery Culture Industrial Park spans about 400 mu (26.67 hectares), with an estimated annual production of 500,000 kilograms. The total expected production for the entire town in a year is 1.15 million kg.

The new version of the anti-counterfeiting traceability logo for Ganlu black carp was released at the event. With the help of modern information technology, each Ganlu black carp is equipped with a unique "fish buckle", achieving full-process traceability from the breeding source to the sales terminal for the first time.

The sales channels have also witnessed significant expansion during this harvest season. A multimedia sales matrix covering multiple platforms such as Douyin, Taobao, and WeChat mini program was established. At the same time, outlet points were arranged within the industrial park and Shengyang Food Market.

A range of promotional initiatives, including limited-time discounts, lucky draws, and special incentives for group purchases, has been implemented to further stimulate the sales of Ganlu black carp.

Within the Wuxi Modern Fishery Culture Industrial Park, a fish-themed bazaar was bustling with visitors. Chefs from Wuxi's time-honored food brand Sanfengqiao demonstrated the culinary skills of preparing Ganlu black carp.
