Several fairs were launched in Shandong on Tuesday embodying the Yellow River culture, Grand Canal culture and maritime culture across the province to boost consumption and celebrate the coming Spring Festival holiday.
The province has a diverse landscape with unique features of geography and culture. Positioned on the lower reaches of the Yellow River, Shandong forms a Yellow River culture belt.
In addition, the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal flows through several cities in Shandong, creating a distinct canal cultural belt. With its extensive coastline, Shandong is a maritime province, featuring seven coastal cities, each of which contributes to the rich maritime culture of the region.
The fairs highlight Shandong's quality products and traditional craftsmanship, while showcasing local customs and celebrations. The events include folk art performances, traditional operas and exhibitions of intangible cultural heritage.
For example, the fair featuring maritime culture, which were launched in the coastal cities, will host performances such as singing fishermen and will prepare seafood and other goods to sell during the Chinese New Year.
