Chinese New Year's Eve dinner reservations fill up fast

As Spring Festival dawns on Jan 29, restaurants are receiving a surge of bookings for Chinese New Year's Eve dinner. Besides, online platforms are also promoting on-demand home-cooking services and take-out services, Workers' Daily reported on Thursday.

After launching preferential pre-sale for the Chinese New Year's Eve dinner on Oct 22 of last year, a total of 14 private rooms had been reserved by the beginning of December, said a staff member at a well-known restaurant in Beijing.

In Shanghai, the private rooms in some starred hotels have also been booked out.

Moreover, the booking of the reunion dinner in Guangzhou, Wuhan, and some cities in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces is also seeing spectacular growth.

The online booking for the reunion dinner is also popular, with related keyword searches surging over 101 percent year-on-year since January, according to online platforms Meituan and Dianping.

Online platforms play an important role in reunion dinner reservations, providing new choices for consumers. People are inclined to conduct preliminary screening and comparison through online platforms rather than relying on the traditional word-of-mouth recommendation or in-person visit.

In addition, some online platforms also provide on-demand home-cooking services, which is welcomed by many families who want to enjoy an intimate reunion at home.
