Xinhua | Updated: 2025-02-18 21:30

ABUJA -- At least seven people were killed after a bus full of passengers collided head-on with a truck laden with timber logs in central Nigeria, local authorities said late Monday.

One passenger was injured in the crash in Kogi State, Samuel Oyedeji, sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Kogi, told reporters.

The accident occurred when the truck, with failed brakes, veered into the opposite lane and crashed into the oncoming bus.

Oyedeji said the truck driver fled the scene, likely out of fear of an arrest.

Deadly road accidents are frequently reported in Nigeria, often caused by overloading, bad road conditions, and reckless driving.
