China asks US to resolve issues through dialogue, consultation

China and the United States should resolve their respective concerns through equal and mutually respectful dialogue and consultation, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Thursday, after the US President Trump said that Washington may reach a new trade agreement with Beijing.

Guo reiterated at a regular news conference that trade wars and tariff wars have no winners and will harm the interests of both countries' peoples.

"China firmly opposes the unilateral tariff hikes imposed by the US side," he said, vowing that the country will continue to take necessary measures to firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.
