Wang Jiaran, Lei Jiyu and their coach Xu Haitian were thrilled recently to receive two Guinness World Records certificates — Wang for his attempt to make the most skips in one minute and Lei for making the most double under skips in one minute.
Wang and Lei, 17, are both second-year high school students in Jilin city, Jilin province. They completed the challenges with 408 and 183 skips in one minute, respectively.
They started learning rope skipping in primary school after seeing how much fun their peers had during the exercise.
"How cool would it be if I could jump as well as them," Wang recalled. "With such a simple aspiration in mind, I decisively joined Xu's club."
Rope skipping is a sport that demands high endurance and technique. The pair's daily routine practice includes physical training to refine their skills and mental preparation.
"It not only tests physical fitness but also willpower," said Lei. "Every breakthrough is a transcendence for myself."
