The guideline also advocates integrating elderly-related livelihood cases into the realm of essential judicial support and strengthening collaboration with various departments to safeguard their rights and well-being.
"Respecting the elderly and caring for the young are cherished virtues of the Chinese nation, and addressing an aging population is a long-term national strategy," said Nie Weichang, a lawyer with the Beijing Dentons Law Offices (Chongqing).
In 1996, China enacted the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Protection of the Rights and Interests of Elderly People to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the elderly.
Nie added that the elderly-friendly litigation service system introduced by the People's Court of Banan District deserves recognition. It reflects the court's core mission of serving the people and effectively upholds the rights and interests of the elderly.
