The ongoing exhibition Colorful Mood, Ink Imagery at the Art Museum of Beijing Fine Art Academy shows how Xie followed the path of his predecessors to modernize Chinese painting by reforming coloring and the layering of strokes. The exhibition runs until March 30.

Some paintings on display are monochromatic ink landscapes in which Xie employed various shades of ink to create a celestial mood, combining real nature and imagination.

The rest are colorful works that reflect longtime accumulations since his teens, and his studies with Liu and Zhang.
