As bilateral relations have restarted and are undergoing improvements, Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged Japan to have a correct China perception, abide by commitments on major principled issues, and eliminate disturbances to promote healthy and stable China-Japan ties.

He made the remarks when meeting with Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi on Friday in Tokyo.

The four political documents between China and Japan have laid the political and legal foundation for bilateral relations, setting rules for handling historical issues and the Taiwan question, Wang said.

He added that China is willing to work together with Japan to follow the principles and directions established in the four political documents, and jointly strive to comprehensively advance China-Japan strategic mutually beneficial relations.

Hayashi reaffirmed that on the Taiwan question, Japan remains unchanged in adhering to the stance stated in the 1972 Japan-China joint statement.

Japan is ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in various fields with China, he said, expecting fruitful results from the resumption of the high-level economic dialogue between the two countries after a six-year hiatus to contribute to bilateral ties and benefit both peoples.
