BMW is accelerating the integration of artificial intelligence in its technology and products, announcing a deepened strategic partnership on Wednesday with Alibaba Group to bring AI-powered large language models to its vehicles in China.
Built on Alibaba's advanced Tongyi large model, the new BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant will utilize a custom AI engine jointly developed with the Chinese technology giant.
This next-generation AI system will debut in 2026 in BMW's Neue Klasse models produced in China, delivering a more natural, intelligent, and intuitive interactive experience.
BMW's next-generation immersive intelligent cockpit and the jointly developed smart mobility interaction scenarios will be unveiled at the forthcoming Shanghai auto show in April.
The two companies have been collaborating since 2015. Over the past decade, their partnership in digital innovation has evolved from cloud computing, intelligent connectivity, and smart manufacturing to cutting-edge AI technologies.
BMW said they will explore further cross-domain integration in infrastructure, platforms, and services.
