The World Journalists Conference 2025 opened Monday in Seoul, focusing on the application of artificial intelligence in media.

More than 60 media professionals, including reporters, editors and columnists from over 50 countries, attended the conference to exchange views on how to use AI effectively in reporting.

While noting that generative AI has become an indispensable tool for journalists and has improved efficiency, Hwang Seok-ha, a staff writer from South Korea, emphasized the need for transparency and accuracy when incorporating AI-generated content.

"Any use of AI must be clearly disclosed to readers," he said. "All AI-assisted content must be meticulously reviewed and verified before publication."

Natalia Szewczak, a journalist from Poland, expressed concerns about the risks and challenges posed by the technology, including deepfakes, copyright issues and AI hallucinations. However, she also highlighted its potential benefits.

"AI also offers new possibilities and opportunities," she said.

In her view, the crisis of traditional media has been a frequent topic of discussion in recent years, but with the rapid development of AI, its resolution may take a completely new form.

Beyond AI, participants also discussed the role of journalism in addressing climate change and environmental challenges.
