The Life of Pi, a British play based on Canadian author Yann Martel's best-selling novel that sold more than 15 million copies worldwide, will be staged at Hong Kong's Xiqu Center in the West Kowloon Cultural District, between June 26 and 29.

The fantastical novel, first released in 2001, follows the adventures of Indian teenager Pi Patel and a Bengal tiger as they fight for survival on a lifeboat adrift in the Pacific Ocean. The 16-year-old and the tiger are the only survivors of a shipwreck.

In 2012, Chinese American filmmaker Ang Lee adapted the story for the silver screen, winning four Oscars at the 85th Academy Awards. A decade later, Lolita Chakrabarti's stage adaptation premiered in London's West End to significant acclaim, winning five Olivier Awards in the United Kingdom, and four Tony Awards in the United States.
