Senior investigator expelled from CPC for serious violations

Li Gang, a senior investigator at China's top anti-graft watchdogs, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China and dismissed from public office for serious disciplinary and legal violations, the watchdogs announced on Monday.

Li, 59, was the former head of the discipline inspection and supervision team of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission stationed at the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee.

Investigations found that Li had associated with political fraudsters and resisted organizational investigations, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission said in a statement.

It added that he also accepted banquets that compromised the impartial execution of his official duties, violated organizational principles by not reporting personal matters as required, and sought benefits for others in cadre selection and appointments. Furthermore, Li engaged in profit-making activities in violation of regulations and used public power as a tool to seek personal gain. He also flagrantly accepted money and goods illegally and used his position to benefit others in enterprise operations, project contracting, job adjustments and other aspects, amassing wealth unlawfully.

Li's actions seriously violated the Party's disciplines, which constitutes a serious violation of duty-related laws and suspected bribery crimes. Furthermore, the nature of his actions was serious with a detrimental impact, thus warranting severe punishment, the statement said.

Authorities have confiscated his ill-gotten gains from disciplinary and legal violations and transferred the suspected criminal issues to the procuratorial organs for investigation and prosecution.

Li previously served as deputy governor of Sichuan province and was a member of the standing committee of the CPC Yunnan provincial committee.
