Chinese charitable donations total 151b in 2023

Chinese social organizations and the Red Cross Society of China received a total of 151 billion yuan ($20.6 billion) in donations in 2023, said Giving China 2024, a recent report on China's charity work jointly released by the Institute for Philanthropy Tsinghua University and Yishan Data.
Of this amount, corporate donations accounted for 115.6 billion yuan, representing 76.58 percent, individual donations totaled 33.9 billion yuan, making up 22.42 percent, and other donations stood at 1.5 billion yuan.
In terms of the sectors where charitable funds were allocated, healthcare ranked first, with donations amounting to 55.5 billion yuan, constituting 36.73 percent of the total charitable donations.
The education sector received 37.5 billion yuan, accounting for 24.86 percent, while social services received 24.8 billion yuan, representing 16.45 percent and ranking third. Scientific research received 14.6 billion yuan, making up 9.65 percent and came in fourth, while emergency relief efforts received 6.1 billion yuan, accounting for 4.06 percent and ranking fifth.
