Wu Cunrong, a former senior political adviser in Shanxi province, is facing bribery charges for allegedly accepting property in extraordinarily large amounts, the Supreme People's Procuratorate said on Wednesday.
The procuratorate announced on its website that it has ordered the arrest of the former chairman of the Shanxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference on suspicion of taking bribes, and has designated a Beijing procuratorate to review the case and handle prosecution.
Prosecutors allege that Wu used his former posts, including Party secretary of Hefei, vice-governor of Anhui, and vice-mayor of Chongqing, to secure benefits for others and accept large sums of property.
Wu was placed under investigation in December last year for suspected serious violations of Party discipline and national law. He was expelled from the Party and removed from public office in June this year.
