Typhoon Kalmaegi has triggered widespread flooding across multiple cities and counties in Hainan province, prompting school closures and emergency responses on Tuesday.
Schools in Qionghai, Tunchang, Ding'an, and Qiongzhong were closed on Tuesday as the 25th typhoon of the year brought torrential rain to the island province. Qionghai's flood control and drought relief headquarters elevated its emergency response from Level IV to Level III at 10:20 am.
Continuous heavy rainfall has caused a significant rise in water levels along the Wanquan River in Qionghai. As of 11 am, the water level upstream of the Jiaji Dam reached 11.54 meters with a flow rate of 5,125 cubic meters per second, and levels continue to rise.
