The Xinshengwei Yangtze River Bridge in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, officially opened for traffic on Wednesday after over five years of construction, reducing the commuting time from downtown Nanjing to its Jiangbei New Area to just 10 minutes.
The project has a total length of about 13.17 kilometers, with the main line designed for a speed of 80 km per hour and six bidirectional lanes. Among its key components, the Yangtze River-crossing main bridge is a single-span suspension bridge with a steel box girder, boasting a main span of 1,760 meters. Upon completion, it ranked as China’s longest and the world’s third-longest in its category.
During construction, builders employed an innovative double-layer reinforcement technology to ensure the safety of the deep foundation pits and enable the bridge to stand firm.
The bridge significantly improves Nanjing’s Yangtze River crossing capacity, as well as upgrades the regional road network system.
