Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan jointly inspected the China-Bangladesh Friendship Residential Hall at the University of Dhaka on Dec 15. They were accompanied by a Chinese expert team.

"I hope the construction work will start in the first half of next year," Ambassador Yao told local reporters in a group interview.

Khan expressed gratitude for China's support and assistance in the field of Bangladeshi education. He hoped that the project would serve as a new starting point for further deepening practical cooperation with China in talent cultivation, scientific research collaboration, and youth exchanges, ensuring that the friendship between the two countries is passed on from generation to generation.

Yao noted that educational cooperation is one of the most fundamental areas of China-Bangladesh relations. China stands ready to work with Bangladesh to advance the student-centered, women-focused livelihood project, which will serve as a model for their educational cooperation.

The Bangladesh-China Friendship Residential Hall will provide residential facilities for around 1,500 female students, Daily Star, a local media outlet reported quoting the university's Public Relations Office.
