Huawei Technologies Co said its self-developed HarmonyOS ecosystem has exceeded 32 million devices, marking a significant milestone in its expansion of in-house operating system. The announcement came alongside the launch of its latest nova 15 smartphone series.

During the product launch event, He Gang, CEO of Huawei's device business group, said the nova 15 Ultra and nova 15 Pro are powered by the Kirin 9010S chipset, which debuted in June on the Huawei Pura 80 and delivers an 18 percent performance boost over the previous generation. The standard nova 15 model features the Kirin 8020 chipset.

He Gang said the number of terminals, including its self-developed devices and those from third-party developers running on HarmonyOS 5 and HarmonyOS 6, has now surpassed 32 million units.

He said compared to the early development phases of Google's Android and Apple's iOS, HarmonyOS demonstrates stronger late-mover advantages. Its distributed architecture, and inherent support for multi-device collaboration position it with unique competitiveness in the era of the internet of things, he added.

The executive emphasized the openness of the HarmonyOS ecosystem, which now boasts over 2,000 partners spanning various sectors, including smart home, mobile office, smart travel, and fitness and health.

"Thirty-two million is a starting point, not an endpoint," He said. "We will continue to increase R&D investment and work with our partners to foster a thriving HarmonyOS ecosystem and create greater value for global users."
