More than 2.1 million daily inbound and outbound trips are expected to be made during the upcoming New Year holiday, rising 22.4 percent year-on-year, the National Immigration Administration said on Monday.
The holiday this year will last from Thursday to Saturday. The administration added that the passenger flow will peak on Wednesday evening and Thursday.
The rollout of a series of new immigration management measures has kept unlocking the dividends of customs clearance facilitation policies, fueling a travel rush at ports nationwide for the holiday, the administration noted.
Major airports will see heavy traffic, with average daily inbound and outbound passenger volumes projected at 97,000 for Shanghai Pudong International Airport, 53,000 for Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport in Guangdong province, 43,000 for Beijing Capital International Airport, 19,000 for Chengdu Tianfu International Airport in Sichuan province, and 18,000 for Shenzhen Baoan International Airport in Guangdong, respectively.
A host of large-scale events across Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao over the holiday will increase traffic at land ports adjacent to the two special administrative regions.
To ensure smooth and orderly immigration clearance during the holiday, the administration has ordered border control authorities nationwide to release timely port-specific travel flow updates to guide travelers, step up guidance services to cap Chinese citizens' waiting time at 30 minutes for clearance, and extend service hours at key ports.
