China energy giant announces record oil, gas extraction off Hainan

By Zheng Xin | chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2025-12-30 15:51

The China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) announced on Tuesday that its offshore gas field cluster surrounding Hainan Island had extracted a cumulative oil and gas equivalent output surpassing 10 million metric tons in 2025.

The State-owned energy giant described the record-breaking output as a pivotal achievement as it moves to bolster national energy security and support the high-quality development of Hainan's Free Trade Port.

CNOOC says it has been working to increase the output of mature, operational gas fields through maximizing extraction efficiency, while also bringing new production facilities online in the past few years.

The company has vowed to build China's largest offshore clean energy supply base, significantly scaling up the maritime economy while providing the essential "green fuel" required to power Hainan Free Trade Port's industrial and infrastructure projects.
