China hopeful Bangladesh election will be held smoothly

China on Wednesday expressed the hope that Bangladesh will hold the parliamentary election smoothly, and steadily advance its national political agenda.

Bangladesh's upcoming parliamentary election is scheduled for Feb 12, 2026.

Speaking at a daily news briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said the election is an internal matter for Bangladesh, and that China consistently upholds the principle of non-interference in other countries' internal affairs.

China believes that Bangladesh's interim government and people are fully capable of managing their own domestic affairs and pursuing a development path best suited to their national conditions, Lin said.
