Shanghai airports record major rise in passenger turnover

Figures show that Shanghai's two airports handled more than 135 million passenger trips as well as 4.5 million tons of cargo-and-mail throughput in 2025.
According to Shanghai Airport (Group) Co, a total of 839,000 aircraft landed at or took off from Pudong and Hongqiao international airports last year, representing a year-on-year increase of 4.5 percent.
During the same period, the two airports handled an 8.3 percent year-on-year rise in passenger trips, with Hongqiao facilitating more than 50 million passenger trips for the first time. The two airports also saw their annual cargo-and-mail throughput surge 7.9 percent year-on-year.
According to Feng Xin, chairman of the Shanghai Airport Group, both "Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport have hit new highs in both passenger flow and cargo volumes".
Feng added that the group aims to use 2026 to enhance safety, accelerate intelligent development and green transformation in the process of building a world-class, comprehensive international aviation hub with global influence.
Against the backdrop of strong domestic demand and rapid recovery in the international market, Shanghai Airport Group currently operates an aviation network that serves a record high of 302 destinations in 54 countries worldwide.
