China's commerce ministry comments on investigation of Meta's acquisition of Manus

BEIJING -- China's Ministry of Commerce on Thursday made remarks regarding the investigation of Meta's acquisition of artificial intelligence platform Manus, noting that enterprises engaging in overseas investment must comply with Chinese laws and regulations.

The Chinese government has always supported enterprises in conducting mutually beneficial and win-win transnational operations and international technological cooperation in accordance with laws and regulations, ministry spokesperson He Yadong told a press briefing.

Enterprises engaging in overseas investment, technology export, cross-border data transfer, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, and other activities, must comply with Chinese laws and regulations and fulfill statutory procedures, the spokesperson stressed.

The Ministry will work with relevant departments to conduct an assessment and investigation of the consistency of this acquisition with relevant laws and regulations on export control, technology import and export, and overseas investment, the spokesperson added.
