The food safety office of the State Council, China's Cabinet, and the State Administration for Market Regulation said on Thursday night that they had urged Nestle China to immediately recall certain batches of infant formula sold in the Chinese market to protect consumers' legitimate rights.
The directive follows Nestle's global precautionary recall of certain batches of infant formula in at least 50 countries and regions after potential toxic contamination was identified earlier this week.
The company confirmed that the recall has been completed in the Chinese market as required, adding that it would continue to strengthen oversight and conduct follow-up work to ensure the quality and safety of infant formula products.
