China reaffirms support to Bangladesh as BNP wins election

China has noted that Bangladesh has smoothly and successfully held its national parliament election, with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party taking a commanding lead, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on Friday.

According to preliminary vote counts, the party has won more than half of the seats in the country's parliament, and its chairman Tarique Rahman is expected to assume the post of prime minister.

Lin said China supports Bangladesh in advancing its domestic political agenda and stands ready to work with the country to continue promoting the steady development of the China–Bangladesh comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
