Flower markets opened across Guangzhou, Guangdong province, on Friday, drawing crowds of holiday shoppers and ushering in the festive lead-up to the Chinese New Year, with one venue pairing the city's long-running tradition of buying blossoms with a display of a low-altitude flying car.

The flower market in Tianhe district introduced the new piece of tech alongside its usual colorful flowers and tangerine trees, infusing a sense of the future into the thousand-year-old market.

The car was developed by tech giant Aridge, an arm of new energy vehicle maker Xpeng Motors. "The combination of the flower market and the flying car symbolizes bidding farewell to the old and embracing the new," said Zhao Deli, founder of Aridge.
