Foreign Ministry: Conflict around Strait of Hormuz threatens global interests

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said the Strait of Hormuz and its surrounding waters are important international corridors for goods and energy trade, and that maintaining security and stability in the area serves the common interests of the international community.

She made the remarks at a daily news briefing when asked about the potential impact of a closure of the Strait of Hormuz on China's imports and energy security.

China urges all parties to immediately cease military actions, avoid further escalation of tensions, prevent regional instability, and avert greater impacts on global economic development, she said.
