The curtain rose on the second Rare Traditional Chinese Opera Genres Exhibition on Sunday in Boxing county of Binzhou, Shandong province, bringing outstanding repertoires representing 36 rare opera genres to the stage over a nine-day run.

The opening day dazzled audiences with a tapestry of performances, including excerpts from Yongju opera of the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, highlights from Qianju opera in Guizhou province, a short Qiju opera play from Hunan province, and selections from a medium-sized rod puppetry show in Sichuan province.

The event demonstrates China's commitment to preserving its diverse theatrical traditions for future generations, said organizers.

Sun Qi contributed to the story.
