If paper fades and words are lost, how do we carry memory forward?
At Beijing's Yunju Temple, predecessors answered that question by carving Buddhist scriptures into stone, one character at a time. Today, the temple preserves 14,278 stone sutras and more than 35 million characters, so that a civilization's knowledge will endure across the centuries.
