Kenya to connect SGR with Uganda

chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2026-03-25 00:03

Kenya has broken ground for the construction of the Standard Gauge Railway, or SGR, that will connect the country with neighbor Uganda, marking a major milestone in East Africa's push for deeper regional integration and cheaper transport.

The Naivasha-Kisumu-Malaba SGR line will complete the final phase of the nearly 1,000-kilometer railway corridor, stretching from the port of Mombasa on the Indian Ocean coast to Kenya's western border with Uganda. (Victor Raballa)
