Foreign Ministry rejected on Tuesday former United States ambassador to China Nicholas Burns' remarks on Iran and Venezuela as biased and ill-intentioned.
China has taken note of recent comments by Burns published in the US media regarding China's position on the Iran situation and the Venezuela issue, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a regular news briefing on Tuesday.
Mao said the facts and the merits of both issues are clear, and China's position has been consistent and unequivocal.
She said Burns ignored the root causes of the problems and instead sought to make China a target, distorting and smearing China's fair and peace-oriented position through the lens of US hegemonic thinking.
His remarks were also a malicious attempt to drive a wedge between China and the countries concerned, Mao said, adding that such comments were clearly driven by ulterior motives.
