A spokesman for China's Foreign Ministry has again urged Tokyo to reflect on and correct its wrongdoings, and thoroughly investigate the increasing incidents of harassment and provocations targeting Chinese diplomatic missions in Japan.
Guo Jiakun made the remarks in response to a series of serious incidents in recent weeks, including the intrusion by a knife-wielding Japanese Self-Defense Force officer into the Chinese embassy, and an individual claiming to be a reserve member of the SDF issuing an online threat to the embassy claiming that a remotely controlled bomb had been planted on the premises.
Such malicious incidents revealed many deep-seated problems in Japan, including rampant right-wing ideologies and forces, and the suppression of objective and rational voices, Guo said on Friday.
Attempts to downplay such incidents and even shift attention or blur the line between right and wrong will only lead to more serious consequences, causing greater harm to the Japanese people, he said.
The emergence and spread of a dangerous strain of "neo-militarism" will also threaten peace and stability in the region, Guo added.
